The Fort des Capucins in Roscanvel

Nestling on a rocky islet, Fort des Capucins is linked to the Roscanvel peninsula by a bridge. Built in 1848, this former military fort protected the port of Brest.

Find out more about Fort des Capucins in Roscanvel

Damaged by bombardments during the Second World War, the Fort des Capucins today reveals its remains, surrounded by the sea. The walls still visible seem to merge with the rocks of the islet. For the record, the famous engineer Vauban himself approved the plans for Fort des Capucins, but construction would not begin until two centuries later.
