Located less than 50 minutes from Brest, the former Landévennec Abbey is one of the major historical sites on the Crozon Peninsula.
Situated on the banks of the Aulne River, this site chronicles nearly 1,500 years of monastic and Breton history.
Founded by Saint Guénolé and his disciples in the late 5th century, the Landévennec monastery became a major cultural hub before being attacked by Vikings in 913.
Today, the ruins allow visitors to observe the various stages of the site's evolution.
Highlights include the foundations of the monastic buildings, the base of the church, and the tomb of Saint Guénolé.
Archaeological excavations conducted between 1978 and 2002 have revealed invaluable insights into medieval monastic life.
