A must-see near Brest: the Meneham site
Discover the Meneham Site
Less than an hour's drive from Brest, the Meneham site stands out as one of the most captivating attractions in northern Finistère.
Located on the coast, our Hotel Le Barracuda & Spa offers an ideal starting point for exploring this iconic location, rich in history and spectacular scenery.
A Breton Village Steeped in History
The hamlet of Meneham originated around a guardhouse built to watch over the coast.
Gradually, it became a village of customs officers, then of families living off fishing, seaweed harvesting, and farming.
Today, carefully restored, it offers visitors typical thatched cottages, museum spaces, and four artisan workshops, providing an authentic immersion into Breton life of yesteryear.
A spectacular natural setting between sea and granite
One of Meneham's greatest attractions is its exceptional landscape: monumental rocks sculpted by the elements, white sandy beaches, and small, unspoiled coves.
The famous House Between the Rocks remains one of the most photographed symbols of the region.
An ideal stop for hikers
Located directly on the GR®34 long-distance hiking trail, Meneham is a perfect starting point for hiking enthusiasts.
The trail runs alongside the dunes, rocks, and ocean, offering spectacular views and total immersion in the Breton countryside.
A vibrant place, bustling all year round
Meneham offers a rich and authentic cultural life throughout the year. Highlights include:
The exhibition “Seaweed of the Coast of Legends,” open from October 31, 2024, to June 30, 2026, which showcases the diversity of local seaweed, its traditional uses, and its importance in the marine ecosystem.
The Spring Festival, a new event for 2026, celebrating artisans, nature, and Breton traditions.
Summer activities that transform the hamlet into a vibrant meeting place with workshops, exhibitions, and craft demonstrations.
Autumn festivities such as “Pumpkins Arrive in Meneham,” held during the All Saints' Day holiday.
Finally, Christmas in Meneham, a time when the village takes on a warm and festive atmosphere and offers various activities related to end-of-year traditions.
